Tianjin Community Culture and Sports Center, South Jiefang Road

Tianjin Community Culture and Sports Center is located in northeast intersection of South Tianjin Jiefang  Road and Outer-ring Road. It has five floors above the ground, covering an area of 10,699 m2 and with a height of 23.78 meters. The center offers facilities such as swimming pools, badminton courts and lecture hall on the north side, and various activity areas and meeting rooms on its south. In addition, at the heart of the center, an ecological atrium is designed to create a comfortable natural space for interior environment and improve indoor air quality. As the first non-commercial community building and the first zero-energy building, it successfully achieved the LEED CS Platinum and China Green Building Label 3 Star certification with the help of EMSI.

The project aimed to low carbon and zero energy consumption, the energy saving is up to 77%, which benefits from passive building design strategies, electricity generation technology with renewable energy (solar energy, geothermal water), cascade use of geothermal energy, independent control technology for air conditioning temperature and humidity, deep lake water cooling technology, intelligent lighting control system and the automatic control of fresh air flow rate based on the CO2 concentration.

Shading system: The project employs an adjustable shading system. The triple glazed (two-chamber) glass window acts as a well-insulated wall against heat loss.

Cascade use of geothermal water for electricity generation: If geothermal water temperature ranges 75 to 85, it can be used for electricity generation by low temperature hot water; if temperature ranges 65 to 75, it can be used for heating lithium bromide chiller; if temperature is at 65, it can be used for heating domestic hot water; the waste heat of geothermal water can be extracted to the utmost by using heat pump technology.

Solar power generation system: Solar photovoltaic panels are installed in building roofs, car shed, and nearby senior housing. Most of roofs adopt photovoltaic panels which have a 15 degree tilt angel from due south, and the atrium glass roof employs thin photovoltaic panels with high light transmission rate, which will produce 695MWH of electricity per year.

Independent control technology for temperature and humidity of air conditioning: The combined application of temperature control system (including chilled beam, fan coil unit and floor heating) and humidity control system (such as liquid desiccant unit) keeps energy consumption down while maintaining indoor comfort.

Lake water cooling system: Cooling tower is no longer used to provide cooling for air conditioning system in summer and occasional power generation in transitional seasons, instead, it acts an indirect heat exchanger to transfer lake water to the building by using a water pump.

Intelligent lighting control system: Different lighting strategies vary depending on different functional space. Automatic control strategies for sports and entertainment facility include time scheduling, occupancy sensors, dimming control panels and constant luminance control; strategies for meeting room include time scheduling, intelligent switch, luminance sensor and constant luminance control; strategies for equipment room include time delay control and occupancy sensor.
